Some little notes from Martin:
Cast page – On the printed version, this cast page is on the back and a similar image is on the front cover. Originally, the characters were in different positions on the cover/cast page, but I decided to change it so that they were in the same order as they sit in the class. It took ages to do, but I hoped it would help readers to get to know the characters more.
Page 1 – That’s my dad at the start of the strip!
Page 2 – I was thinking what characters to put on this page and had just watched La La Land – so put a couple of people at the top who are dressed as Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling’s characters
Page 7 – Harry and Emilie are the names of my nephew and niece -and they look a little like the Zeros’ Harry and Emilie.
Page 9 – The funny thing is, that when I started drawing Zeros, I hadn’t decided on who the main characters (in the class) were going to be. I had around 8 of the characters decided, but there were up to 14 or 15 that I was still thinking about. Of course, when I came to draw this page, there are only 12 desks, so my decision was made for me – I had to choose 12!
Overall – these first few chapters are mainly set-up and introductions. I’m really excited about some of the chapters further ahead where the experimenting really starts!
I love the references to The ‘O’ men in there.
Love the set up and premise Martin! And all the different characters inhabiting this world. Very creative. Looking forward to reading the next chapter. Bring it on!
